The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) offers a variety of registered and drop-in aquatic and swim programs at our three pools. Whether you are looking for swim lessons, want to become a lifeguard or want to drop-in for swimming or aquatic fitness classes, we have what you are looking for!

Practice swim lessons are a great way for your child to get extra swim practice and for our new swim instructors-in-training to complete the requirements of the Swim Instructor training. Swim instructors-in-training are not yet certified to provide formal feedback and as a result, participants will not receive badges or report cards.

Swim Lesson Registration Guidelines
What you need to know before you register your child for swim lessons.
To help provide fair access to swim lessons, participants may enroll for only ONE swim lesson set per aquatic facility.
Participants must meet the required prerequisites for their selected swim level. If you are unsure about your swim level, contact us* to arrange a swim assessment to ensure you are enrolling in the correct level.
The SCRD reserves the right to withdraw participants who register for swim lessons without meeting the guidelines. Once a customer is withdrawn, it is final.
*Please contact us at least one week before registration to allow aquatics staff to arrange the swim assessment.
Private Swim Skill Development Sessions
Private Swim Skill Development sessions may be available for individuals for whom one-on-one instructions may be helpful.
These private or semi-private lessons are intended for swimmers who may be stuck in a level and only need a few lessons to focus on specific skill or require 1:1 instruction because they do not learn well in a group setting.
To be considered, interested participants apply by completing the Private Swim Skill Development Lessons Request Form. Please return completed forms to the front desk at Sechelt Aquatic Centre or Gibsons Community Centre or email the completed form to recreation@scrd.ca.
Applications will be reviewed and lessons will only be arranged when we are able to provide the service. Availability of private swim skill development lessons is not guaranteed.
