DISINFECTION BYPRODUCTS (DBP)

Trihalomethanes (THMs) and Haloacetic acids (HAAs) are disinfection byproducts that form when naturally occurring organics in the water react with chlorine. DBPs are tested quarterly throughout each of the SCRD’s water systems. The Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality state the Maximum Acceptable Concentration (MAC) for THMs and DBPs in drinking water as 0.1 ml/L and 0.08 mg/L respectively. DBPs are based on a quarterly running average.
