The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) is providing funding to four local projects through the 2026 Waste Reduction Initiatives Program (WRIP) with all four applicants receiving their full requested amounts.

As just under half of the funding has been allocated, the SCRD is extending the deadline for applications until Friday, November 20. Guidelines and further information on how to apply can be found here and at letstalk.scrd.ca/wrip. Projects must include a plan to measure and report how much waste is diverted from the landfill.

Launched in 2015, WRIP supports waste reduction and recycling priorities identified in the SCRD’s Solid Waste Management Plan. The program provides $7,500 annually to support projects led by Sunshine Coast community groups and associations, non-profit societies, registered charities and school groups within School Districts 46 and 93.

To date, the 2026 funding recipients and their projects are:

xwesam-Roberts Creek Community Association (xRCCA) – Roberts Creek Community Food Pantry Repairs
xRCCA will repair the community food pantry to help prevent food waste. Follow the project’s progress on the association’s website and social media channels.
2026 funding: $750.00

Rotary Club of the Sunshine Coast – Event Waste Reduction
