Could you grab your emergency kit and go? Know how to make your home safer from wildfire? Know what to do when the ground starts shaking?

Join the shíshálh Nation Government District and Sunshine Coast Regional District for a free, interactive Community Emergency Preparedness Day:

Saturday, September 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This all-ages event is designed to make emergency preparedness practical, hands-on and even a little fun!

What’s happening?

Experience Quake Cottage!
Step inside Canada’s earthquake simulator and experience what an earthquake can feel like.

Personal Preparedness
11 a.m.–12 p.m. | Elders Boardroom
First Nations Emergency Support Services will provide information on household preparedness planning and what goes in your emergency kit.

See a FireSmart assessment in action Workshop
1–2 p.m. | Back parking lot
The Sunshine Coast FireSmart team will demonstrate how a home can be assessed for wildfire risk and what you can do to make your property more resilient. Participants should be comfortable standing for approximately 60 minutes.

Build a DIY air purifier Workshop
1–2 p.m. | Elders Boardroom
Join the BC Lung Foundation for a hands-on workshop to make your own air purifier.

Workshop spaces are limited to approximately 15–20 participants, so sign up early. A registration form is required for the workshops, and submitting a form does not guarantee a spot. Confirmation emails will be sent by September 15. Workshop registration.

Meet emergency preparedness experts and local organizations, including BC Emergency Health Services, Emergency Support Services, FireSmart, Sechelt Fire Department, BC Wildfire Service, FortisBC, SCRD, Canadian Rangers and many more.

There will also be food from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. and a raffle draw at 2:30 p.m. with prizes including a generator, portable power station, grab-and-go kits and more! You must be present to collect your prize.

No registration is required to attend the event itself. Everyone is welcome!
