The hardworking staff and volunteers at Xwesam / Roberts Creek Volunteer Fire Department were shocked last week when they discovered that a large quantity of diesel had been stolen from the fire hall.

The theft is believed to have taken place last Friday (September 15), after 8:30 p.m. The diesel that is stored at the fire hall is crucial for emergency response efforts.

“Having been Chief here for a number of years, I can say that this is one of most disgusting acts that our fire department has faced,” says Chief Pat Higgins. “To think that anyone believes they have the right to steal from our fire department and jeopardize our ability to respond to emergencies in our community is completely unacceptable.”

The theft is under investigation and the fire department is asking anyone who may have information about this theft to contact police and quote file number 2023-6769. The fire hall is located on the Sunshine Coast Highway at the intersection of Roberts Creek Road.

The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) has replaced the fuel to ensure there will be no service impacts because of the theft. Security monitoring has been increased at the fire hall.
