2025 June Water Supply Update

Tags:  2025 | Community Bulletin

The long-term weather forecast for the region indicates above-average temperatures and below-average precipitation, signaling a warmer and likely drier summer than normal.

Snowpack

In the areas surrounding Edwards Lake and Chapman Lake there is little to no remaining snowpack. As a result, snowmelt is no longer contributing to flows in Chapman Creek.

Rain and Stage 2

Rainfall in the Chapman Lake watershed has been minimal over the past several weeks, and current forecasts show little relief in sight. With water levels continuing to drop, water flowing over the Chapman Lake dam is expected to stop within the next few weeks. Once that occurs, Stage 2 water conservation regulations are likely to be implemented for the Chapman water system within the next few weeks as well.

Water Use

Residents are encouraged to complete any water-intensive activities as soon as possible, as doing so now will have less impact on the community water supply than it would under Stage 2 regulations.

Other Water Systems

At this time, there are no immediate concerns for other systems; however, the situation at the Eastbourne water system on Keats Island is being closely monitored. The start of summer break and the resulting increase in water demand from seasonal users could place a strain on the Eastbourne system and may trigger Stage 2 water conservation regulations there as well.
