Sunshine Coast Emergency Program

The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD), through the Sunshine Coast Emergency Program (SCEP), is the lead agency for emergency management on the Sunshine Coast. The Town of Gibsons, District of Sechelt, and the Sechelt Indian Government District have joined the SCRD to be part of one integrated emergency program. Municipal and regional district staff along with volunteers, first responders, first nations and non government agencies plan, train and exercise together to be ready for the next large scale emergency or disaster. The organizational chart shows the structure of SCEP and the relationships and roles of its different members.

When required by first responders, an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will be activated by the SCRD to support an emergency or disaster. An EOC is responsible for various duties such as declaring a state of local emergency, coordinating multiple agencies, providing media releases and managing evacuees.

The Sunshine Coast Regional District authorized under Sunshine Coast Regional District Emergency Measures Plan and Administration Bylaw No. 564, 2005 provides a comprehensive management program for the entire Sunshine Coast to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies and disasters.
