Solid Waste Management Plan
All Regional Districts in British Columbia are required to have a regional solid waste management plan that is approved by the Ministry of Environment. The most recent SCRD Solid Waste Management Plan was adopted by the SCRD Board in 2011. The plan is approved by the Ministry of Environment.
Every 10 years, the Plan needs to be updated. In 2022, the SCRD has initiated the process to update the 2011 plan. The updated Plan will describe how the SCRD will manage garbage, recycling, green waste, and food waste programs for the next 10-years.

2011 Solid waste management plan amendment
In 2021, the SCRD amended the 2011 Solid Waste Management Plan. The amendment was added to add the option to temporarily export solid waste out of the region should the Sechelt Landfill reach capacity before a new long-term solid waste disposal facility is operational.
Engagement on the amendment ended on December 3, 2021.
