The Sunshine Coast Regional District is accepting applications for persons interested in pre-qualifying to work as election officials in the upcoming October 2022 General Local Election.

Placements for election officials may be at any of the potential voting locations throughout the Regional District, including: Madeira Park, Garden Bay, Halfmoon Bay, Roberts Creek, Elphinstone, West Howe Sound, Gambier Island, and Keats Island.

To qualify you must:

  • commit to working on General Voting Day (Saturday, October 15, 2022) and you may also express interest in one or more Advance Voting Days (Wednesday, October 5 and Wednesday, October 12),
  • commit to attending a mandatory training session for 1.5 hours during the week of September 26 to 29 (times/dates to be confirmed – an evening session and online session will be offered if you are unable to attend in person),
  • commit to working a long day – voting hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., however, election officials are required to be available prior to 8:00 a.m. for set-up and after 8:00 p.m. to close down the voting station and assist with the ballot count (new this year: automated ballot tabulators will be used so manual counting of ballots will not be required), and
  • be knowledgeable about election procedures, have excellent communication skills and work well in a team environment.

Election officials are required to make a solemn declaration that they will faithfully and impartially fulfill their duties and will be appointed to one of three positions at the discretion of the Chief Election Officer.
