The Sunshine Coast has favourable conditions for agriculture. Soils generally have moderate agricultural capability, while South Coast weather is characterized as having mild, moist winters and warm, dry summers. Despite our mild weather and suitable soil conditions, currently only a fraction of the food consumed on the Sunshine Coast is grown and produced here.
In April 2020, the BC Ministry of Agriculture produced the Agricultural Water Demand Model Report for the Sunshine Coast Regional District. The report can be found here.
At the May 14, 2020 Planning and Community Development Committee meeting, BC Ministry of Agriculture staff presented results of the Agricultural Land Use Inventory and Agricultural Water Demand Model projects for the Sunshine Coast Regional District. The presentation materials can be found here.
