Climate and Energy

The Sunshine Coast Regional District, in partnership with the Town of Gibsons, the District of Sechelt, and the Sechelt Indian Government District (SIGD), is taking a leadership role in addressing climate change.

The Sunshine Coast Regional District has continued to demonstrate its commitment to Climate Action through an array of supportive and directed initiatives focused on fostering both community and corporate sustainability. The 2019 CARIP Climate Action / Carbon Neutral Progress Report outlines this information.

The SCRD has reduced its energy use 20% between 2011 and 2016. But we still have more work to do to reach our ambitious 30% reduction by 2025. Read the SCRD's Strategic Energy Management Plan to learn more.

In addition, our The Community Energy and Emissions Plan (CEEP 2009) aims to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions throughout the community, through implementing a range of actions.

The Community Energy and Emissions Inventory has just been updated as part of the region’s commitment to sustainability, and adherence to the Community Energy and Emissions Plan (CEEP adopted in 2009), and We Envision (the regional sustainability plan adopted in 2011).

Sunshine Coast Renewable Energy Atlas was produced in 2012 and is a preliminary review of renewable energy potential on the Sunshine Coast.
