Message from the Chair
The Sunshine Coast is a unique area, a community of communities that is home to nearly 28,000 full-time residents, and thousands of summer residents and visitors. Located a 40-minute ferry ride from Vancouver, residents enjoy a small town and rural lifestyle while being close to city amenities. A wide-range of artisans present a variety of cultural opportunities, and our pristine natural environment and exciting recreation centres offer year-round activities. The Sunshine Coast is also a rapidly growing area.
As elected representatives, we recognize that we are an important part of the lives of the people who live on the Sunshine Coast. By forming collaborative municipal and electoral area partnerships we serve the best interests of everyone. Our role is to provide good government, accessible services, stewardship, and economic and environmental well-being for the people and communities we serve.
We are embarking on a new strategic direction that will give residents a voice in emission reduction, water protection, solid waste management, and transportation. These are just a few of the priorities that will allow us to work with residents to identify our community’s vision of a sustainable way of life in the Sunshine Coast region. Together we can develop strategies to manage change so that we can meet the needs of current residents without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.
We could not do our job without the hard-working staff, dedicated volunteers and concerned citizens who take an active role in protecting the quality of life on the Sunshine Coast. If we want to maintain our lifestyle and natural resources, we must continue to work together and plan for the future. There are many opportunities for citizens to participate in governance through advisory committees, and by attendance at Budget, Board and Standing Committee meetings. By working together we can serve the best interests of all our communities. Please take time to review our web site to learn more about our services and what you can do to strengthen your community.
