Trihalomethane (THM) Tests
Trihalomethanes (THMs) are disinfection byproducts that form when natural occurring organics in the water react with chlorine. Throughout the SCRD’s water systems, THMs are tested for regularly throughout the year. The guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality (GCDWQ) state the Maximum Acceptable Concentration (MAC) of THMs allowed in drinking water as 100 ug/L which is based on a running annual average. The guideline is based on the risk associated with chloroform, the THM most often present in greatest concentrations in drinking water. For more information on THMs please check out http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/ewh-semt/pubs/water-eau/trihalomethanes/index-eng.php
