ELECTION EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The Sunshine Coast Regional District is accepting applications for persons interested in pre-qualifying to work as election officials in the upcoming October 2018 General Local Election. Placements for election officials may be at any of the potential voting locations throughout the Regional District, including: Egmont, Madeira Park, Garden Bay, Halfmoon Bay, Roberts Creek, Elphinstone, West Howe Sound, Gambier Island and Keats Island.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

To qualify you must:

  • commit to working on General Voting Day (Saturday, October 20, 2018) and you may also express interest in one or more Advance Voting Days (Wednesday October 10th and Wednesday October 17th),
  • commit to attending a mandatory training session for 1.5 hours during the week of October 1st – 5th (there will be 2 options for times/dates to be confirmed),
  • commit to working a long day – voting hours are from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, however, election officials are required to be available prior to 8:00 am for set-up and after 8:00 pm to close down the voting station and assist with the ballot count (note there are shorter voting hours for Egmont, Gambier and Keats Island voting stations), and
  • be knowledgeable about election procedures, have excellent communication skills and work well in a team environment.

Election officials are required to make a solemn declaration that they will faithfully and impartially fulfill their duties and will be appointed to one of three positions at the discretion of the Chief Election Officer.
