If yes, you may be able to obtain a referral from them for the LIFE Program. Please discuss with the agency.
If you are not connected with a referral agency, please contact SCRD Recreation 604-885-6801 to arrange an interview. You may be required to discuss your situation in more detail.
Disability Access - Attendant Fee Policy
Free admission is provided to the attendant of a person with a disability who requires SUPPORT to participate in recreation programs & services offered by the Sunshine Coast Regional District.
SUPPORT is defined as assistance of a physical, psychological, emotional, intellectual or sensory nature, which is necessary to ensure that the person with a disability is able to fully participate. If an attendant is required, then the attendant must remain with the person with a disability at all times while at the recreation site.
The person with a disability will pay the relevant admission/registration fee and his/her attendant will attend for free of charge. If you think that the Attendant Fee Policy applies to you, please talk to our front desk staff.
If the person with a disability is living on a low income, they can apply for the LIFE Program - see above.
Third Party Billing
If you are eligible to bill a third party for your recreation charges, please download the Third Party Billing Form. The third party must sign the completed form and agree to the charges. Then, present the completed and signed form at either Sechelt Aquatic Centre, Gibsons & Area Community Centre or Pender Harbour Aquatic and Fitness Centre.
Gibsons & Area Community Centre
Thanks to the local M.S. Support Group and their fundraising efforts, Gibsons & Area Community Centre has two Thera-Vital trainers. These trainers provide a passive and active workout option for individuals with neurological and muscular degenerative diseases, providing motorized assistance to work out arms and legs. Individuals with M.S., Parkinsons, or other neurological, muscular and rheumatic disorders, strokes or paraplegia will now be able to exercise in a community social setting, on their own schedule, for cost of the facility drop-in fee. The machines can be used from a wheelchair or sturdy chair. For instructions on how to use this new equipment check out the Thera-Vital Manual.
