Tipping fees generated at the Sechelt Landfill and Pender Harbour Landfill sites cover the cost of landfill operations and costs associated with landfill reuse and recycling programs.

All loads of municipal solid waste – except residential curbside pickup – containing non-separated controlled waste or recyclable materials will be assessed a tipping fee which is two times the regular fee of the most expensive material in the load. This fee will be charged for the entire load.

The weight of materials delivered to the landfill site, on which fees are based, will be determined by:

  • Measuring the weight on the scale provided at the landfill site; or

  • In the event that the scale provided is not operational, weight will be estimated by the landfill Attendant employed by the Sunshine Coast Regional District.

All charges will be rounded up or down to the nearest quarter of a dollar.

Electronic Waste (E-waste) Diversion at SCRD Landfills

As of November 15th, 2009, SCRD no longer accepts electronic waste at either the Sechelt or Pender Harbour landfills (includes TVs, computers, monitors, etc.). Residents are encouraged to take their electronic waste to the approved public drop off facility at Gibsons Recycling, 1018 Venture Way, Gibsons (free of charge). Remember – when you’re buying a new piece of electronics, save yourself a trip and return your old one for recycling at the same time!
