Preparedness Tips for Individuals and Families:
Residents of the Sunshine Coast are encouraged to take the 7 Day Emergency Preparedness message a few steps further.
Due to logistical aspects facing the coast, residents are being reminded to plan to be self-sufficient for at least 1 week. Following a large disaster affecting the Sunshine Coast and the Lower Mainland, damage to critical infrastructure such as roads, ferry terminals and hydro transmission lines will very likely be slow in recovery due to a lack of supplies and manpower. Emergency services will be very busy providing assistance, first to those in the most need such as the elderly, homeless and disabled. By being prepared at home, residents will significantly reduce the burden on already over-worked responders, many of whom are volunteers.
