Billing
Please read the following important points to know about garbage collection and disposal charges in the Sunshine Coast Regional District:
• Residential garbage collection for SCRD customers is billed for annually on SCRD Utility bills.
• Utility bills are sent out in of May each year, and payment is due on or before June 15 of that year.
• New houses are added for billing upon issuance of a house number.
• Residential garbage collection is a mandatory service for each dwelling in the Sunshine Coast Regional District garbage collection area (refer to Bylaw 355), even if you choose not to use the service.
• User fees are billed each year in the first week of May. If you have not received your bill by the third week of May, please contact us at 604-885-6806 or email info@scrd.ca.
• Please keep your address and billing information up to date with our office.
• There will be a 10% penalty charged on all unpaid amounts after the due date.
• All unpaid amounts as of December 31st are transferred to the next year's Property Tax Notice, for payment to the appropriate Government Agency.

One Can Program
Residential garbage collection customers can put out one 77 litre can of garbage each week. Your garbage can should be put out at the end of your driveway by 8 am on your designated collection day.
Note that if you require extra garbage collection on a regular basis due to medical reasons, the SCRD may consider making special arrangements (doctor's note may be required). For more information contact the Infrastructure Services Department at 604.885.6806 or email utilityinfo@scrd.ca.
ACCEPTABLE GARBAGE INCLUDES:
• municipal solid waste (garbage) of a non-toxic nature;
• garbage generated by residential premises from normal household use, and;
• garbage capable of being contained in a garbage can.
UNACCEPTABLE GARBAGE INCLUDES:
• garden waste, brush
• land clearing waste
• construction/demolition waste such as wood, gypsum
• free liquids of any kind
• commercial, industrial, institutional waste
• hazardous, explosive, chemical waste
• hot or burning material
• waste oil, petroleum by-products
• paint
• lead acid batteries

You can also call the Recycling Council of British Columbia hotline at 1.800.667.4321 to ask questions about recycling and safe disposal options or visit their website.
Reduction of Annual Garbage Collection Fee
Owners of an eligible property who meet the following criteria, can apply for a reduction of their Annual SCRD garbage collection fee:
• Your total tax from column A of your most recent rural property tax notice is less than $945.00, and;
• You are eligible for the Additional Home Owner Grant.
Please contact our office to apply for a reduction if you meet the eligibility criteria. Property owners who qualify will have their garbage collection fee reduced by an amount equal to the portion of the Additional Home Owner Grant that the owner was unable to use to reduce the amount of property taxes payable.
Garbage Tags
The Sunshine Coast Regional District makes garbage tags available to residents who need to have an extra can collected on garbage day. The tags are yellow in colour, and cost $2.50 each.
Tags are available from:
• Sunshine Coast Regional District at 1975 Field Road;
• Town of Gibsons at 474 South Fletcher Road;
• Gibsons Home Hardware at 921 Gibsons Way;
• Direct Disposal Corp at 6041 Sechelt Inlet Road;
• and from the garbage truck driver.
